Still having trouble learning a particular technique? Can’t quite grasp the fundamentals of it yet?
Fear not. Here’s a good way to speed up the learning process.
Simply find a willing partner and teach them the technique you are having trouble with.
I know that may sound silly, considering you are none too clear on the technique yourself. You may even be asking, how can I teach someone something I don’t understand myself?
It doesn’t matter that you don’t have complete understanding at this point. The idea is to run through the technique with your partner, explaining what you do know as you go along and allowing the gaps in your understanding to fill themselves in. And they will. Little things will suddenly occur to you as you teach the technique that will deepen your understanding. You may suddenly realize as you’re explaining that the left foot has to be in a certain position or that you have to use your hips in a certain way for the technique to work. You’ll be surprised by what occurs to you during this process. Explain the technique to your partner a few times and you should have a much better insight into the workings of it by the time your finished, thus you will better be able to do the technique yourself because your understanding of it will have increased.
Teaching, as they say, is the best way to learn.
Try it!
