Are you struggling to learn a technique? Can’t quite get the moves down no matter how hard you try? Don’t worry, here’s a handy NLP inspired training tip to help you make some forward progress.
Start by getting yourself comfortable. Either lie down or just sit comfortably in a chair. Any where you can get nice and relaxed for a bit.
Take some deep breathes and allow your body and mind to relax. When you are suitably relaxed picture in your head the technique you are having trouble with. Actually picture yourself performing the technique in as much detail as possible, being fully aware of every move involved in the technique.
Now inside your mind picture yourself performing the technique in slow motion, again noticing every tiny movement. Do this a few times.
Next I want you to see yourself performing the technique backwards. A little trickier this one, but you’ll soon get it. Start at the end of the technique and work backwards from there, once again being aware of every movement. Repeat a few times.
Before you open your eyes tell yourself emotively and with full confidence that you are a master of that particular technique. Repeat this at least eight times.
Then the next time you’re at the dojo, try the technique again and you should see a marked improvement in your performance and understanding of it!
Try it! It works!
